I am having problems running WER (downloaded the installer two days ago) on my old laptop that I'd like to repurpose just to run tournaments (Prestigio 157, 1,6 GHz, 512 MB RAM, Win XP SP3 clean install, downladed and installed all critical updates two days ago, admin account).
It installs fine together with the required .NET 2.0 SP1 framework, but when I try to run it, it crashes with the following message: “Wizards Event Reporter has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.”. If I further probe the cause of the error, it seems to be something to do with reporter.exe and kernel32.dll.
I wrote to Wizards Customer Support and they suggested that I install .NET framework 4.0 and reinstall WER, but nothing helped (I even uninstalled .NET 2.0, but then WER wouldn't even work, so I reinstalled it). Then they prompted me to send them the error report and I did, but they couldn't find anything. They told me that they had exhausted all the tech support available for this issue and apologized that they can't help me.
Has anyone else encountered and/or solved this problem? Has anyone got any ideas what could be the problem? I'd be thankful for any assistance.
