Strategic Feedbacking: Timing Matters

I found the comments about areas for development particularly helpful.
When I have reviewed other judges (in my admittedly limited experience) I haven't found any big areas for development - I've managed to pick out a couple of key examples where improvements could have been made, but sometimes this has been a bit of a stretch. Having the feedback of “I didn't notice any areas” validated is useful.

I had a conversation today with the HJ at my event and he suggested that areas for development could be based around encourage judges to develop underutilised aspects of their practice (e.g. encouraging a local community-oriented judge to gain experience of Comp REL tournaments).
This has the benefit of providing an explicit direction to improve in, but might not be useful for judges who are content to work within their current area of expertise.
