Is there a way to purge these? I get that it's just pulling the top X posts from event forums I'm part of but it's weird to my brain for it to say “recent” when the last post was 8 months ago.

Hi Rebecca,

None that I know of. Maybe you could try to propose it as a new feature via https://apps.magicjudges.org/feedback/

However, it would best be configurable per user as I can imagine different needs and expectations from different users.

To solve your issue, just apply and be selected for another major event :-D
Actually, that may be the purpose for the current behavior - to give the user a nudge: “hey, you should work on this” ;-)

The easiest fix that satisfies everyone would be to add “Most” in front of
the title. ;)
