Player makes error based on a rule that has changed

Aldo returns to Magic after taking a break for a few years and plays his Legendary because he believes it will cause both his and Naomi's Legendary creature to die.

After learning the rule has changed, Aldo asks if he can take the card back and play something else.

How should this be handled?

Thanks

Educate the player. Explain that his play was legal, but doesn't have the
desired result. Players aren't allowed to take back actions because they
don't understand the results beforehand. Remind them to call a judge
beforehand if they have questions.

Even at Regular REL I would not force the opponent to allow a take back - but if the opponent wanted to let the player undo the play, then I have no problem with that here. As Shawn said, though, the most important thing is to educate the player about the fact that rules change and that you are there if he wants to check anything.
