Forgetting to untap during untap step

This is a problem that seems to happen quite regularly, a player just not untapping or not untapping everything during their untap step. Now I've always just told the player to untap their permanets that should have been untapped since you can't just skip the untap step.

However from a technical standpoint this would be a GRV, and since there is nothing in the IPG about a partial fix for this situation a backup should be required.

So have I been doing this all wrong the whole time and should have been backing up (if feasable) to correct the error or should I just continue to tell the players to untap what should have been untapped during the untap step? Thanks.

With very rare (e.g., corner-case) exceptions, there's just no advantage to be gained from this simple error. You're fine just reminding them to untap.

If they persist in sloppy play, you may wish to be firmer, even issue the GRV for tracking purposes. But once or twice? It really isn't a big deal.
