While I agree with Daniel's overall point, I think it's important not to apply the analogy too literally. The situation he describes in Go is precisely why we no longer attach specific time limits to play actions in Magic tournaments – we specifically don't want players taking 1 second less than the time they are “allowed” for a decision. This does make slow play more challenging to adjudicate, but that's a part of the job of a judge.

I don't think Daniel was suggesting that we start using a specific time limit, but it is important that we not even approach that. We don't do it for a reason.

Right I was not suggesting implementing fixed time limits. More just that “Playing carefully is not playing slowly, and playing carefully while it looks like there's no way to win isn't stalling.”
