Another Level 2 and I were having a discussion today. I have been under the impression that all GPTs with a player count higher than 8 players are mandatory swiss round events (based on what i read in the GPT rules document). My friend is under the impression that GPTs can be single elimination at any player count, partly due to how the grinders that award byes at GPs work. Can someone clear this up for me?

Thanks!

Paperwork sen to TOs (the fact sheets) define the policies for things like GPTs, PPTQs, etc.

What's done at a GP isn't covered by the same policies; don't use GP “grinders” as precedent for store-level events.

I've not seen a GPT fact sheet for a while (I don't own a store, so I normally don't need to know), so I can't provide an ‘O’fficial answer - except to say “always comply with the fact sheet”. (If someone who is a store TO has the link to the most recent fact sheet, that could be useful.)

So, you've got your answer - single slim for 8, else normal Swiss.
