A Terribly Tricky Traversal [Bronze]

Welcome back to the Knowledge Pool! This week we have a Bronze scenario, with a couple of new rules. First, we will now be accepting submissions of solutions at https://goo.gl/forms/vnrUVubee7H99bSK2. On Monday, we will choose one of the correct solutions and post it as the answer, along with additional clarifying information. Also, we will be locking participation in this thread until after the solution is posted on Monday, so everyone can work out their answers on their own.

The idea for this change is that many Bronze scenarios get quickly answered and spoiled in their threads. The KP team believes that many of you will submit your answers, but currently choose not to respond because the solution is already here.

Without any further delay, here is the scenario for the week.

Amiee is playing against Nico at a Standard PPTQ. Aimee casts Traverse the Ulvenwald, searches for a card, and puts it into her hand. Nico points out that she didn't reveal, and calls for a judge. At this point, Aimee realizes that she didn't actually have delirium, and tells you that she couldn't have searched for the card that she did. Looking at Aimee's hand, you see that she does not have any basic lands there. What do you do?

Awesome idea! This happens all the time, I check the email in my phone and by the time I got home and remember to write it, the answers are already spoiled and don't want to say the same again. A+ for this new method!

Thanks everyone for participating. We saw a large uptick in responses this week, and are hoping for more in the future.

Max Berry's Solution was the first to hit all of our points

Issue GPE-HCE have Aimee reveal her hand to Nico and have nico choose the card that would have been revealed to traverse. Since nothing in Aimee's hand is a legal result of the search, the card nico chooses will be shuffled back in. Then Aimee will resolve traverse correctly, finding a basic land of her choice.

Our solution was

Aimee receives a warning for Hidden Card Error. Have Aimee reveal her hand, and Nico chooses 1 card as the card that was searched for. Since that card isn't a basic land, treat it as excess and shuffle it into Aimee's library. Then have Aimee resolve Traverse the Ulvenwald correctly, searching for a basic land.

Several submitters pointed to the idea that resolving Traverse “with delirium” was a GRV, and the root cause of the error. While that is an error, the first thing that went wrong was Aimee putting the card into her hand without revealing. The Hidden Card Error remedy fixes all of the issues with the game, and HCE is a more specific penalty, so we only issue HCE.
