New D/DL penalty split and multiple infractions
This situation came up at a comp event I ran at my store and I wanted to make sure I understood the policy involving the IPG and the new deck/decklist error infractions.
So with the way that Deck errors and Decklist errors are now seperate infractions, and I do a beginning of round deck check, scooping just after the players present, I find that a player has not only failed to desideboard before starting this game, but also they only registered 14 cards in their sideboard and I found an extra card that is not registered, now they have commited both infractions, and since there is an upgrade path for deck error that says if it's caught during the presentation period of the deck the penalty is a game loss, they have now commited two seperate infractions, neither of which have the same cause (decklist error for forgetting the 15th sideboard card on the decklist, deck error for having sideboard cards in the main and vise versa).
With the old policy since they were the same infraction, if both were discovered simultaneously it would only be a single game loss, but now it would effectively be a match loss, which seems a bit harsh, but seems to be what the IPG is suggesting.
Of course, an investigation was made and the player was determined to not be trying to gain an advantage, it was merely clumsiness.
