My first PPTQ: a guide for stores (and a little bit for judges)

Hello everyone

I got an assignment to write a guide on what a pptq is and what TO's can expect from it to test my understanding of tournament operations. As it seems a waste to not use it anymore, I translated it into English and hereby express my willingness to provide it to all of you.

If you happen to come into contact with a store that wants to start organising PPTQ's (or competitive events for that matter), feel free to contact me so I can send you the pdf. Somehow it's impossible to add it here.

In my opinion, it may also be useful to new judges and to judges that are going for L2 (or just got their certification) as I provided a blank schedule you can use to structure your tournament.

Hoping to hear from you

Olivier

You can putting the WER ready in advance so you (or the judges) can swiftly register players.
That sentence sounds kinda strange.
Maybe something like
“You can start up the WER in advance so player registration can start as soon as possible. ” sounds better?

This has been updated. Seems like translating from Dutch to English while watching a Flemish show is not the greatest idea ever.

Oliver,

That is an excellent document, one of the better ones I've read. I'ld suggest for the rounds section that you identify MTR Appendix E for the appropriate number of rounds.

I'ld also encourage you or someone in the chain to share this document with the WPN so they may publish it and disseminate it to store owners, who may not have a judge already to get them this document.

I did not put in it as the WER (and the judge) will tell the TO how many rounds will be played. Also, they are “supposed” to know from before. (but I'll include it)

I'd like to but I have no idea how.

May I suggest to add specific informations about Limited?
Materials -> you need boosters and decklists
top8 -> draft is not mandatory, but is encouraged. For 9-16 players attendance, this impacts on the structure of tournament.
Etc. etc.

Oh, and you need pens, players will ask for them.

Thank you for these suggestions. The document has been updated and the link remains the same: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2wf3TMVej05bEFoNlFIRkdESFk/view?usp=sharing

Guess it's easy to forget the basic(s) (I didn't think about it either) :)
