Magic Judges Facebook page — Annual report

Hola everyone!

Some information on the status of this project:

The team
Right now there are several judges and some WotC staff who have admin privileges on the official Magic Judges Facebook page, and are able to post updates to it.

Andrew Heckt

What do we do?

During this year we have posted 355 updates, that’s almost a daily post!

We have been working together with other judges in charge of projects (such as Johanna Virtanen with Judge Anniversaries, Stephan Classen with Judge of the Week, Evan Cherry with the Judge Articles blog, or Iva Kleiner with Magic Judge Monthly, just to name a few) to periodically schedule posts advertising those projects, giving them a larger reach.

We have a shared Google doc where we program a schedule, and anyone who needs/wants stuff to be posted periodically on Facebook is granted access to it. We coordinate our efforts with the official Magic Judges Twitter account, managed by Bryan Prillaman, monitoring other communication channels to make sure the community would punctually get information about everything going on in the judging world.

This year Rick Salamin has been taking care of uploading the profile pictures taken at GPs to be used on Judge Center and JudgeApps to this album on the Facebook page. Check it out! Is your pic there?

Some statistics
As 1st of January 2013 the page had 2252 “likes”; and now we are at 3506! Of the users we reach 75% are male (a nice swing from last year’s 82%), and 53% of them are between 25 and 34 years old.

The larger reach is regularly for updates that include staff pictures. This is kinda obvious, since staff pictures have 40+ people tagged, so a lot of friends of those who are tagged will “see” the post in their news feed.

The post with the greatest reach (the number of unique users who have seen the post) was the GP Las Vegas staff picture. It was seen by 7684 Facebook users. This post was also the one that had the most interactions (likes, comments, shares, etc.), with 398 engaged users.

Other non-event staff picture notably popular posts were the announcement of the changes for GP Saturday registration on 2014 and the announcement for the Judge Program reaching 4000 judges.

About the future
Our plans for 2014 are very straightforward: to maintain the frequency of almost daily updates. We want the Facebook page to be available to promote and advertise your projects and initiatives, please contact us if you want to know more.

Finally we would like to thank all of those who have requested and/or suggested topics to be posted on the page during 2013, and we hope to be able to help you all better communicating with the judge community during 2014.
