Project Description
PURPOSE
The core purpose of this project is to encourage daily rules and policy conversation amongst judges. I (Danny Simard) had the idea to have a bot automatically post a question to a channel on our regional Slack once per day, which would encourage participants to discuss the answer. Any level of judge or judge candidate can participate; the idea is to attempt to answer the question and give/receive feedback on the group response.
CURRENT STATUS
[11/30/2018] I found a script on github that will automatically post to a Slack channel from a set of responses to a Google form. Thanks to the help from the Slack server owner in USA Southwest and one of my programmer friends, we have a first iteration live in #qotd on the Southwest Magic Judges Slack. I set the trigger to post a random question between 9:00 am and 10:00 am Pacific time. So far, the response has been pretty good considering that it's new. It hasn't become routine to check the channel (yet), the question pool is small right now, and the functions are limited. But, It should get better with a bit of collaboration and participation.
GOALS
- Add in-channel commands to signal qualities about questions. i.e., upvote/downvote, flag for review, send a question on demand, etc.
- Add rating system for questions (level of difficulty, categorization, etc)
- Significantly increase the pool of questions.
- Implement this solution for Discord
