Guile Casting or playing

Hi,

I couldn't find a thread for this so I thought I would ask. Does Guile having exiled a spell that was countered cast or play it without paying the mana cost, for the purposes of interacting with cards such as Dovescape and Guttersnipe?

The Oracle text reads play, however the first line of errata uses an example where it says cast. I was not sure which of the two sets of text take precedence.

Guile Casting or playing

Hello.

If something instructs you to “play that card”, you play the card if it's a land or cast it if it's not a land. So in most cases, you're going to be casting the card that was just countered, and things that trigger when a spell is cast (like Guttersnipe or Dovescape) will trigger.

701.11b To play a card means to play that card as a land or to cast that card as a spell, whichever is appropriate.
