we were arguing, whether a
tarmogoyf targeted by
merfolk trickster is 0/0 or 0/1.
i initially said it's 0/0 and dies (which is the way magic online apperently does it in the moment), because it loses it's CDA completely, so the whole “~'s power is equal to the number of card types among cards in all graveyards and its toughness is equal to that number plus 1” is gone, leaving a creature without defined p/t, hence 0/0.
NOTES AND RULES INFORMATION FOR MERFOLK TRICKSTER say otherwise:
“If the target creature has power and toughness written as */* with an ability that defines its power and toughness, it’s 0/0 when it loses all abilities. If its power and toughness are written as */*+1, it’s 0/1, and so on.
(2018-04-27)”
(note that tarmogoyf is written */1+*, not */*+1 but that shouldnt make a difference, right?)
so it appears to me the CDA is only the “…is equal to that number..” part,
without the “plus 1”
while i accept that, i'd also like to
understand it, i can't find the rules from which to
conclude this outcome,
who can tell me the exact relevant rule here?
what is that “1+”, if it's not part of the CDA? a modifier?
