Rebound & Nivmagus Elemental

If you exile the initial casting of a spell with Rebound with a Nivmagus Elemental, can you still cast the rebound copy still happen next turn?

The rebound rules (702.86a) say:
“If this spell was cast from your hand, instead of putting it into your graveyard as it resolves, exile it and, at the beginning of your next upkeep, you may cast this card from exile without paying its mana cost.”

There's no “if you do” or anything like that; it's not triggering off going to the graveyard, and the card is going to the zone where Rebound is looking for it, so you can do this?
OR
Rebound is one ability, so if the first part (exile with Rebound) doesn't happen, the second doesn't either, so you can't?

Thanks!

Rebound functions as the spell resolves. If the spell is exiled for Nivmagus Elemental, it never resolves, so rebound never has a chance to function.
