I was one of the scorekeepers for Spotlight: The Hobbit in Brisbane recently, and we ran an LTQ on the Sunday of the event. The tournament structure dictated by WotC included a cut to top 32 followed by four 8-player single-elim drafts.
There is not any specific guidance in the MTR that explains how to create four pods from 32 players, so after consulting with the HJ and several other L5s in the room, we settled on the following as a way to reward high placing in swiss and not (for example) encourage people to try and place 9th or 17th to be top of a lower ranked pod.
Each pod is assigned players by snaking numbers like a Rochester draft, so it ends up looking like the following:
| Pod 1 | Pod 2 | Pod 3 | Pod 4 |
| 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 |
| 8 | 7 | 6 | 5 |
| 9 | 10 | 11 | 12 |
| 16 | 15 | 14 | 13 |
| 17 | 18 | 19 | 20 |
| 24 | 23 | 22 | 21 |
| 25 | 26 | 27 | 28 |
| 32 | 31 | 30 | 29 |
This results in each pod having an equal "weighting" of seeds and means that each player has a roughly appropriate number of people above and below them in Swiss rank for the purposes of determining play/draw.
Once sorted into pods, we randomly seated players for the draft portion which then determined their opponents for the elimination rounds.
As this was the second time I have had to sort 32 players into 4 pods, and Melee.gg only generates pods using 1-8, 9-16 etc (and the manual sorting process is rather time consuming) I decided to try and automate it so that I (or whoever is SK at our next Regional Championships) don't have to do all the grunt work again. As an added benefit, this allowed me to generate paper brackets that I could hand to the HJ to announce the splits and run each pod without needing SK intervention to pair each match. Each player's Swiss standing is listed on the brackets to easily work out who chooses play/draw.
If this sounds like something you or your SKs could use for LTQs or any other event where you need to cut to multiple top draft pods, the sheet is linked below - simply make a copy and edit it for your own purposes. It only requires two steps - pasting/typing your top 32 players in, and then copying and pasting from the grey randomised cells to the yellow block below (this stops it re-randomising the seatings every time you refresh the page, in case you need to reprint the pods or brackets at any point)

Feedback welcome if anyone has suggestions for improvements, or if we missed something glaringly obvious in our process I would also love to hear about it!
