Copying activated abilities that remove counters as a cost

Cruel Sadist
Simic Manipulator
Sage of Hours

I'd just like some clarification to make certain I and possibly others understand the interpretation here.

If Rings of Brighthearth copies the activated ability on each of the above cards.

It would copy the effect of Cruel Sadist because the value of X is copied and therefore deals X damage twice (once for each ability), yes?

but for the other two

The copy would have no effect because it references the number of “counters removed this way” during the activation of the original and there were no counters removed this way for the copy, correct?

Removing counters from an object does not meet the interpretation of a use of the object from “an effect of the copy refers to objects used to pay its costs” per 706.10, correct?

That's correct.

Counters aren't objects, so they're not “objects used to pay its costs.”
