I wish there was a “Like Post” button!

I'd like to bring up a potential bug- the other post in this subforum, copying a creature that isn't copying anything, is impossible to reply to. I'm not sure if that's because of my settings, but with 70 views and no replies I'm guessing this is universal

The plan for the forums is to lock any post asking a rules Question, until a moderator has an opportunity to confirm and post an Answer.  This is in keeping with the settings on Rules-L, and the recommended (yet oft-ignored) protocol for Judge-L.

There are also discussion forums, where we won't lock a thread until it's gone (way?) beyond its useful life span.

Now, the obnoxiously large hole in that plan?  I forgot to let Daniel K in on the plan, and forgot to get him the access he needs…  oops.

Expect the requested, fficial answer fairly soon!

Oh! I didn't ask for an (O) answer. Where should I have posted it if I wanted a lively discussion about it?

Can there maybe be a checkbox when creating a topic to leave it open or to get official responses only?

(Edit: I guess you can't type O in square brackets on the forum.)

It seems like a good idea to be able to have separate “discussion” and “question/answer” threads. The clearest and simplest for users is probably to have separate forums, rather than requiring people to tag their threads (and readers to pay attention!).

What do you think?

I meant enforced by the software. Basically a “Don't allow discussion before Official response.” checkbox that locks the thread upon creation and keep it locked until the NetRep unlocks it.

I think what Daniel suggested is better. If I am looking for topics to discuss but don't have one of my own, I wouldn't want to waste time sorting through what is waiting for (O) and what is discussion. If they were in separate subforums that would be easier. Also I believe it would make searching for an (O) answer easier when bringing a new topic that could have been answered already.

Edit: Also, what Dan suggested uses what is already in place and can be used immediately if desired.

I think the issue is that the rules forum is actually named Rules Discussion. Can we just create a new Forum called Official Ruling Requests, or something along those lines?

Daniel answered the question and it is still locked. Can you fix that, Scott?

Side note, [O] can be done by doing the following:

open bracket O open bracket closed bracket closed bracket

replacing open bracket with [
and closed bracket with ]
and no spaces

The idea is that, once an [O] answer is provided, the thread is done.  That's in keeping with how Rules-L has functioned all along.

However, we moderators have been chatting, and seem to be in agreement, that there is also merit in offering an outlet for people's need to discuss rules.  Expect to see a slight reorganization of things before long - with a forum for discussion, and a forum for getting [O] answers.
