There was some discussion about
Read the Runes and its second instruction with respect to the draws being replaced and what qualifies as “drawn this way”.
There was consensus on draws that didn't happen - dredge or otherwise replace the draw, no discard or sac required.
There was some debate on what happens when something like Notion Thief gets involved. Does the replacement that has a different player draw qualify as a card “drawn this way”?
The general feeling was no, that there's an implicit “you have” preceding the “drawn this way”.
Someone dug up the Onslaught FAQ and found that Read the Runes had a card-specific ruling that indicated that it didn't matter who had drawn the card, just that a card was drawn.
For each card drawn this way" counts only how many cards were actually drawn, not how much was spent on {X}.
For example, the ability of one of the Words in this set can cause you to draw fewer than X cards, and that would affect the number of cards you'd need to discard.
However, it doesn't matter *who* drew the cards.
The Torment(TM) card Plagiarize ("Until end of turn, if target player would draw a card, instead that player skips that draw and you draw a card.") could cause another player to draw cards from Read the Runes instead of you; that would not affect the number of cards you'd need to discard.
