board wipe vs exile triggers

Ran into this situation several times.
someone has Chainer, Dementia Master with some guys he reanimated with it. a wrath effect takes place, does the controller of chainer choose which creatures are exiled or are they all exiled. his argument is that since he controls the creatures then he controls the order in which they hit the grave.

When resolving the wrath effect, all creatures are destroyed and put into their owners' graveyards. This triggers Chainer's ability which is put on the stack after wrath has finished resolving. When resolving Chainer's ability, all Nightmares are exiled, but I guess there'll be none left (on the battlefield), since they're already dead. So no creature goes into exile.

While he chooses the order in which the creatures hit the graveyard, they are still all put into it simultaneously. This only changes the order in which they actually lie in the graveyard, not the timing at which they are put there.

Hi Kevin,

The Chainer player is wrong about the controller of the permanents choosing their ordering in the graveyard. CR 404.3 states that "If an effect or rule puts two or more cards into the same graveyard at the same time, the owner of those cards may arrange them in any order."

But this is in fact irrelevant to your question, as all of the creatures in play die simultaneously. Chainer's trigger is only put on the stack after the wrath effect is done putting cards in graveyards. By the time it resolves (much later), there won't be any Nightmares left on the battlefield for it to exile.
