Merieke Ri Berit & Karn's Touch

Hi everyone!

I have been asked the following question:

"1. I use Karn's Touch to turn an opponent's artifact into a creature.
2. I steal the animated artifact using Merieke Ri Berit.
What happens when the artifact stops being the creature at the end of turn? What happens when Merieke is untapped later in the course of the game?“

My answer is that, no matter the actual card type, the game will keep track of the ”link" between Merieke and the stolen object and thus the artifact will still be affected by all abilities of Merieke. So it will remain stolen and it will be destroyed if Merieke becomes untapped or leaves the battlefield.

Would you be so kind and clarify this question for me?

Thanks!

You are right.

Merieke's ability cares about the type of the target only at two moments: when you activate the ability, and when it resolves. At all other times, it doesn't matter what the type of the object is. “Detroy that creature” in the last part of the ability simply means “destroy that object”, which references the object that was chosen as a target for the first part. It's templated this way because it works in most cases and is much easier to understand.
