Aven Mindcensor and Finale of Devastation

On MTGO, my opponent cast Finale of Devastation, hoping to search their library for a creature, in response I cast Aven Mindcensor. MTGO allowed my opponent to search their whole library, and in the chat, my opponent claimed it was because the Finale says “search your library and/or graveyard” so the Mindcensor doesn't count it as something that needs replacing.

That seems wrong to me, as I would have thought the Mindcensor replaces any library search, regardless of how it is caused to happen. Is MTGO/my opponent wrong, or am I?

Aven Mindcensor and Finale of Devastation

Hi,

That sounds like a bug. It doesn't matter that the Finale lets you search multiple zones. If you're searching a library and your opponent controls the Mindcensor, you can only search the top 4 cards. The Mindcensor won't affect you searching other zones at the same time (like the graveyard, in the case of the Finale), but if you choose to search your library, you can only look at the top 4 cards.

Thanks,
